"How much do guitar lessons cost?"
To answer this extremely popular question, we decided to do more than just tell people the usual. Yes, the cost of guitar lessons will vary according to things like location, teacher experience, and lesson length. But just for estimation purposes, what type of ballpark prices can you expect?
To find out the average cost of guitar lessons, we polled 94 guitar teachers to ask them about their lesson rates.
About the guitar teachers:
Guitar teachers polled: 94 Average years playing guitar: 27 Least amount of experience: 7 years Most amount of experience: 50 years Average age: 41 Youngest guitar teacher: 19 Oldest guitar teacher: 70
Average lesson length: Of the 94 guitar teachers we asked, a majority of them offered lessons in 30 or 60 minute blocks. Less than 10% of respondents offered 45 minute lessons, and only 3 out of 94 teachers went beyond the 60 minute mark.
Average lesson price: The average cost of guitar lessons, according to this sample, is approximately $20 per half hour and $40 per hour. The cheapest guitar lessons were $12 for a half hour session, and the most expensive guitar lessons were $65 per hour. Almost 35% of the teachers polled offered some sort of multi-lesson discount for students who paid for the month in advance.
The factors that most affected lesson rates were the teacher's playing experience (more years = more $), location (bigger cities = bigger $), lesson length (longer lessons = more $), and the teacher's resume (more qualified = more $).
